GA Review

Hey, I'm Hunter. I think this article has a lot of potential and good content, but I don't believe it's ready for GA status. I also saw that you seem to have nominated this article without having made too many major contributions to it before or after, which I'm not sure is the best way to go about nominating potential good articles. There is a lot of work that needs to be done before this can get up to GA status, and I hope you are willing to pursue it in the future. A few things right off the bat...
- Sources and citations is one of the biggest things. Many of these sections go several paragraphs without a source or citation. This absolutely needs to be remedied before a GAN could continue.
- The prose isn't in horrible shape, but it could use improvement. I believe the best place to start with this article isn't a GA nomination, but a Wikipedia peer review. I suggest you sign this article up for a peer review and go through the process of improving the prose of the article there. I think you'll find even many of the non-prose related problems with this article could be resolved through that process.
- The lead omits key information about Schwarzenegger, most notably any mention of his bodybuilding career, let alone his Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia titles. Also, for someone with such a long and distinguished film career, more than a single movie (The Terminator) should be mentioned; what about Conan the Barbarian, Predator, Total Recall and Terminator 2: Judgment Day? There's also the fact that it doesn't mention that he was born in Austria (even if it does say he's an Austrian-American).
- There are some instances of POV in this article that put the article's neutrality into question. Things like, "his most famous film was The Terminator." A good peer review (as stated above) could help resolve some of these issues. There are other instances where statements need far more explanation and citations to be sufficient, as well as backing from other sources, like "Schwarzenegger may have been an illegal immigrant at some point in the late 1960s or early 1970s due to violations in the terms of his visa."
- The structure of this article could use a little bit of work. For instance, I feel like much of the information in Early adulthood and Move to the U.S. actually belong in other sections (the Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia stuff should be under Bodybuilding career, and the stuff in those sections about his romances with Barbara Boxer and Sue Moray should be under Personal life).
- The Political career section of this article is very long considering there is a subpage Political career of Arnold Schwarzenegger that exists. Much of the info in this Political career section probably belongs there, and the section should be revised and tightened accordingly.
Before I move on with any more specific copy editing, I'd like to see some of these major issues addressed. In the meantime, I'll place this article on hold for seven days. --Hunter Kahn (talk) 06:36, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- Note: I have notified Dodgerblue777 (talk · contribs), who originally added the {{GA nominee}} template to this article's talk page, about the hold. I'd noticed that the article wasn't listed at WP:GAN even though it had the template, so I listed it there so that it could be reviewed. I am not involved in the article right now, but I thought I'd let you know that the original nominator has been notified. -Drilnoth (talk) 14:49, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks Drilnoth! --Hunter Kahn (talk) 16:42, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm going to not pass this one due to inactivity. I see, however, that a peer review request has been put in, and I do think that is the best way to start. As I said, all the ingredients for a good article are here, and I'm confident with a bit of work this will get there in the future. --Hunter Kahn (talk) 00:41, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
